NEET RESULT 2025: How to Calculate the Percentile Score?

NEET percentile reflects your relative performance compared to other candidates. There are two common methods:

1. Percentile Based on Marks:

Percentile = Your NEET Score Topper's NEET Score*100

2. Percentile Based on Rank:

Percentile =Total Number of Candidates - Your Rank Total Number of Candidates*100

The All India Rank (AIR) and category rank are provided in the scorecard, which helps determine the candidate’s position among peers. If multiple candidates have the same score, tie-breaking criteria apply in the following order: higher Biology marks, then Chemistry marks, and finally Physics marks.

These calculations help candidates understand their performance and estimate their chances for admission based on rank and marks.

NEET Result 2025 Tie-Breaking Rules Explained

If two or more candidates achieve the same total marks in NEET 2025, the tie is resolved by applying the following criteria sequentially until the tie is broken:

  1. Higher marks in Biology (combined Botany and Zoology).
  2. If still tied, higher marks in Chemistry.
  3. If still tied, higher marks in Physics.
  4. If still tied, fewer incorrect responses proportionally across all subjects.
  5. If still tied, fewer incorrect responses proportionally in Biology.
  6. If still tied, fewer incorrect responses proportionally in Chemistry.
  7. If still tied, fewer incorrect responses proportionally in Physics.

If all these criteria fail to separate the candidates, the tie is finally resolved through a random selection process overseen by an independent expert committee appointed by the National Testing Agency (NTA).

This updated tie-breaking procedure replaces previous methods such as considering age or application number and was introduced to ensure unique rankings, especially after multiple candidates secured the same top ranks in previous years.

NEET 2025 Merit List and All India Rank (AIR) Details

After the official NEET 2025 answer key is released, the National Testing Agency (NTA) will also publish the NEET merit list. This list is compiled based on candidates' aggregate scores. Last year, the NTA issued three distinct NEET merit lists, which are categorized as follows:

Overall NEET Merit List for India: This list includes the names and ranks of all candidates who appeared for NEET, arranged by their All India Rank. It is accessible nationwide and shared with counselling authorities for both the All India Rank and All India Quota admissions.

15% All India Quota (AIQ) Merit List: Prepared by the Medical Counselling Committee, this list features candidates eligible for the 15% AIQ seats. Counselling for these seats is based on the AIQ rank rather than the state rank. Certain states, like Andhra Pradesh and Telangana, do not require a self-declaration form for this quota, whereas candidates from Jammu & Kashmir must submit one. A waiting list, up to four times the merit list size, may be created if deemed necessary by the Director-General of Health Services.

85% State Level Merit List: The remaining 85% of seats are filled based on merit lists prepared by each state's Medical Council, considering candidates' eligibility and domicile status. These lists are derived from the NTA's data and are used for state-specific counselling processes.

These merit lists serve as the foundation for the counselling and seat allocation conducted by national and state authorities for medical college admissions.

Who is eligible for NEET 2025?

To be eligible for NEET 2025, a candidate must be at least 17 years old by December 31, 2025, and should have passed or be appearing in Class 12 with Physics, Chemistry, Biology/Biotechnology, and English. Minimum marks required are 50% for General, 40% for SC/ST/OBC, and 45% for PwD in PCB subjects.

What is the success rate of NEET?

NEET has a low success rate, with only about 5–8% of candidates securing an MBBS seat. This is due to the extremely high number of aspirants competing for limited government and private medical seats across India.

Can I get MBBS with 400 marks in NEET?

With 400 marks, getting a government MBBS seat is very difficult for General candidates but may be possible for SC/ST students in some states. However, 400 is generally enough for many private colleges or semi-government institutions.

A NEET score of 270 is considered low for MBBS admissions, especially in government medical colleges. However, it may qualify you for BAMS, BHMS, or BDS courses in certain private or deemed universities.

Can I get MBBS with 500 marks in NEET OBC?

Yes, OBC candidates with 500 marks may secure an MBBS seat in government colleges in some states depending on the cutoff trends. It is also a safe score for many private MBBS colleges under the OBC quota.
