Four inputs. Under 60 seconds.
- Enter your JEE Main rank — use your AIR from the official NTA result, or estimate it using the JEE Mains Rank Predictor
- Select your home state — this determines Home State (HS) quota eligibility, which gives significantly better cutoffs at NITs in your state
- Select your category — General, OBC-NCL, SC, ST, EWS, or PwD. Category rank is used for reserved seat allocation, not AIR
- Select your gender — Female-only (supernumerary) seats have separate, more relaxed closing ranks

JEE Mains 2026: Marks vs Percentile vs Rank
Before using the predictor, use this table to cross-check where your marks place you. For under 10,000 rank in JEE Main 2026, candidates need to score marks above 195 out of 300. For rank under 5,000,
candidates need to score between 200–230 out of 300.
Based on JEE Main 2024–2025 trends. 150 marks in JEE Main typically indicates a percentile in the 90–95 range, sufficient for entry into less competitive or non-CSE branches of NITs.

NIT CSE Closing Ranks 2025 - Top NITs (General Category)
A JEE Main rank below 5,000 is generally favourable for B.Tech admission to top NITs, such as NIT Trichy and NIT Rourkela. Use this table to set a realistic NIT target before filling your JoSAA preference list.
OS = Other State quota; HS = Home State quota (more relaxed). Above figures are OS closing ranks for General category. Your HS rank at your state's NIT will typically be 20–40% more relaxed.
NIT Cutoff Trends: Year-Wise (2022–2025)

Top IIIT Closing Ranks 2025 - CSE (General Category)
IIITs are preferred by candidates mostly for Software and AI/ML-based careers. Seat intake in IIITs is comparatively low, which increases their cutoffs. With increasing demand for IT jobs, cutoffs for IIITs are rising.
IIIT Hyderabad is autonomous and has a separate UGEE exam in addition to JEE Main. Verify eligibility before applying.
Top GFTIs to Know - JEE Main 2025
GFTIs are more accessible than NITs and IIITs. Cutoffs can vary as per location, branch, and reputation. GFTIs are a great option for candidates looking for government-recognised institutions with lower cutoffs than NITs and IIITs.
Home State vs Other State Quota: What You Must Know
This is the single biggest factor most students overlook during JoSAA counselling.
Every NIT reserves approximately 50% seats for Home State (HS) candidates. The remaining 50% are Other State (OS) seats filled by candidates from across India.
What this means in practice:
- A student from Tamil Nadu has a much better chance at NIT Trichy than a student from Delhi with the same rank
- HS cutoffs at popular NITs are typically 30–60% more relaxed than OS cutoffs
- If you are from a state with an NIT, always check your HS closing rank — it may open branches that appear closed under OS quota
Example — NIT Trichy CSE 2025:
A student from Tamil Nadu with rank 7,000 can get NIT Trichy CSE under HS quota. The same rank from another state cannot.
Category-Wise NIT Closing Ranks 2025 — NIT Surathkal CSE
NIT Surathkal JEE Main 2025 cutoff for CSE was 2,800 for the Open category, 549 for EWS, 2,251 for OBC-NCL, 917 for SC, and 500 for the ST category.
Category ranks are separate from AIR. A reserved category rank of 1,000 does not mean AIR of 1,000.
Rank-Specific Questions: What College Can You Expect?
These are the most searched questions after JEE Main results. Answers based on JoSAA 2024–2025 data.
What college can I get with rank 5,000?
At rank 5,000 (General, OS quota), NIT Surathkal and NIT Warangal CSE are accessible. NIT Trichy CSE is borderline. Good NIT ECE branches open up widely. IIIT Hyderabad and IIIT Bangalore are within reach. This is a strong rank.
What college can I get with rank 10,000?
NIT CSE at top NITs (OS quota) becomes difficult. NIT ECE and Electrical are accessible at good NITs. 90 percentile may not be enough for CSE or ECE at NIT Delhi unless you are eligible for Home State or reserved quotas. IIITs in Delhi, Allahabad tier are open for CSE.
What college can I get with rank 20,000?
Mid-tier NITs in Mechanical, Civil, and Chemical branches open up. Home state NIT CSE may be accessible if you are from that state. GFTIs become a strong consideration. IIIT CSE at newer IIITs is possible.
What college can I get with rank 50,000?
General candidates must be in the top 95,000 ranks for any NIT seat. At 50,000, newer NITs in Civil, Metallurgy, or Production Engineering remain accessible. GFTIs are a reliable option. State engineering colleges become the main route for good placements.
What college can I get with rank 1,00,000?
At this rank, NIT admission in General OS quota is very unlikely. State counselling is the recommended path. Private colleges with strong placements (VIT, SRM, Manipal) are realistic alternatives and do not require JoSAA participation.
What percentile is needed for a top NIT?
The safe score for JEE Main is expected to range between 175 to 185, equivalent to the 95 percentile. To obtain 99 percentile, candidates must score between 245 to 285. For top NIT CSE (OS quota), you typically need 98.5+ percentile (rank under 10,000–12,000).
JoSAA Counselling 2026: How Seat Allocation Works
JoSAA manages admissions to all 127 institutes including 23 IITs, 31 NITs, IIEST Shibpur, 26 IIITs and 47 Other-GFTIs through a single platform.
Key facts:
- JoSAA conducts 6 rounds of seat allotment
- You must fill preferences in order of priority — rank them carefully
- Fill 20–25+ choices — more choices = more upgrade opportunities
- Participation in mock rounds helps you understand how your rank maps to real allotments

Common JoSAA Counselling Mistakes
These cost students their seat — not their rank:
- Too few choices filled — 5–6 choices severely limits upgrade potential across 6 rounds
- Ignoring Home State quota — students from NIT states often miss significantly better options
- Skipping mock rounds — mock allotments tell you exactly where your rank sits before real rounds begin
- Freezing in Round 1 or 2 — upgrades happen in later rounds; freeze too early and you lose them
- Not checking document requirements — missing a single document during reporting causes automatic seat cancellation regardless of rank
Funding Your Engineering Seat
NIT and IIIT fee payment deadlines under JoSAA are strict. The partial JoSAA admission fee is set at ₹20,000 for SC/ST category students and ₹40,000 for General, OBC, and EWS category students — payable within days of allotment to hold your seat.
Beyond the partial fee, first-year engineering fees at NITs range from ₹80,000 to ₹2.5 lakh depending on the institute. Missing fee payment means losing the seat, even after confirmation.
Propelld offers education loans for NIT and engineering students — no collateral required, faster than banks, and eligibility based on academic profile.

Frequently Asked Questions
Frequently Asked Questions
Can I use this predictor if I have my percentile but not my rank?
Yes — first convert your percentile to an estimated rank using the JEE Mains Rank Predictor, then use that rank in the college predictor.
Does home state affect NIT admission?
Yes, significantly. Each NIT reserves approximately 50% seats for home state candidates. Your HS closing rank can be 30–60% more relaxed than OS closing ranks at the same NIT.
Are B.Arch colleges included in this predictor?
The predictor uses JoSAA Round 6 final closing ranks from 2024–2025 as the dataset. These are the most accurate available benchmarks. Actual 2026 cutoffs will shift slightly based on difficulty, seat matrix changes, and number of qualified candidates.
Do IITs appear in this predictor?
No. IIT admission is through JEE Advanced, not JEE Main. This predictor covers NITs, IIITs, GFTIs, and other JEE Main-accepting colleges. Use the JEE Advanced College Predictor for IIT options.
What is the difference between AIR and category rank?
AIR (All India Rank) is your overall rank among all candidates. Category rank is your rank within your reservation category. For reserved seats at NITs and IIITs, category rank is what determines eligibility — not AIR.
