FAQ for UPTAC College Predictor

Can I get CSE with a 40,000 rank?

If your JEE Main rank is around 40,000, getting Computer Science Engineering (CSE) in top-tier institutes like NITs or IIITs can be challenging, particularly in the general category. However, it’s still possible in lower-tier NITs or state engineering colleges, especially if you belong to a reserved category or are applying under home-state quota.

Are AKTU and UPTAC the same?

No, they are not the same. AKTU (Dr. A.P.J. Abdul Kalam Technical University) is a state university in Uttar Pradesh. UPTAC (Uttar Pradesh Technical Admission Counselling) is the centralised online counselling process managed by AKTU for admissions into affiliated institutions offering engineering, management, pharmacy, and other professional courses.

Does UPTAC accept JEE Main scores?

Yes, UPTAC uses JEE Main scores for B.Tech admissions in colleges affiliated with AKTU. Candidates are allotted seats based on their JEE Main ranks through the UPTAC counselling process.

How many rounds are conducted in UPTAC counselling?

UPTAC typically includes four main counselling rounds (Round 1 to Round 4), followed by an Internal Sliding Round (Round 5) and one or more Special Rounds (Round 6 or beyond) to fill remaining vacancies.

Can I get admission into Thapar University with a 70th percentile in JEE Main?

A 70th percentile in JEE Main may not be sufficient for highly sought-after branches like CSE at Thapar University during the initial rounds. However, you might still secure admission in less competitive branches or in later counselling/spot rounds.

What JEE Main rank is needed for Thapar University?

Thapar University’s JEE Main cutoffs vary each year. For 2025, general category closing ranks ranged from approximately 46,000 to over 2,20,000, depending on the branch. CSE, being the most competitive, had one of the lowest closing ranks, around 46,226.

What is the UPTAC counselling fee?

The counselling registration fee for UPTAC 2025 is INR 1,000. This is a non-refundable amount and must be paid online using UPI, net banking, or card payment methods.

Is a JEE Main score of 167 considered good?

Yes, a score of 167 in JEE Main is quite good and can lead to a high percentile, possibly qualifying you for JEE Advanced. It also gives you a decent chance of admission into reputable NITs, IIITs, or GFTIs.

What rank corresponds to the 99.99th percentile in JEE Main?

A 99.99th percentile in JEE Main generally translates to a rank below 100. The exact rank can vary based on the session’s difficulty and the total number of candidates.

Is 37,000 a good rank in JEE Main?

A rank of 37,000 is competitive and can offer admission into various NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs. While CSE at top NITs may be out of reach, other branches or colleges are definitely within range.

Can I get into an NIT with a 40,000 rank?

Yes, admission to some NITs is possible with a 40,000 rank, especially if you're targeting less competitive branches, belong to a reserved category, or are applying under home-state quota.

Which colleges can I get with a 75th percentile in JEE Main?

With a 75th percentile, admission to IITs or top NITs may be unlikely, but you still have good chances at some state government colleges, private universities, and a few IIITs or GFTIs with lower cutoffs.
