The University of Mysore (UOM), established in 1916, is a UGC-recognized state institution with NAAC 'A' accreditation. It has been designated as a University with Potential for Excellence. The University of Mysore was founded on July 27, 1916, making it the sixth oldest university in India and the first in Karnataka. Notably, it was also the first university established outside British India's territorial limits. Its establishment was driven by the vision of Maharaja Nalvadi Krishnaraja Wadiyar IV (1884–1940) and the then Diwan, Sir M. Visvesvaraya (1860–1962). In 2000, it became the first university to receive NAAC accreditation with Five Star Status.

It houses a well-stocked library with a vast collection of books and journals, separate accommodation for boys and girls, and a canteen, among other amenities.
