GMAT Focus Edition 2026: Key Sections and Topics
The GMAT Focus Edition replaced the older GMAT in February 2024. The updated version is shorter, more skill-focused, and removed Analytical Writing (AWA), Sentence Correction, Geometry, and Integrated Reasoning. The current 2026 syllabus evaluates the skills required to succeed in business school across three sections.

GMAT Focus Edition 2026: Quantitative Reasoning Section
The Quant section tests your ability to solve problems and interpret data using arithmetic and algebra. Geometry was removed in the Focus Edition — you don't need to study circles, triangles, polygons, or coordinate geometry for the GMAT anymore.

GMAT Focus Edition 2026: Verbal Reasoning Section
Verbal Reasoning has only two question types in the Focus Edition: Reading Comprehension (RC) and Critical Reasoning (CR). Sentence Correction was removed — no more grammar or punctuation testing on the GMAT.
1. Reading Comprehension (RC)
You'll see short passages with multiple-choice questions on main idea, supporting details, inference, function, application, and tone.
2. Critical Reasoning (CR)
Passages typically under 100 words. You'll be asked to identify assumptions, strengthen or weaken arguments, or evaluate logical flaws.
GMAT Focus Edition 2026: Data Insights Section
Data Insights is the newest section in the Focus Edition. It evaluates your ability to interpret data presented in graphs, charts, and tables — closer to real business-school analytical work.

Understand the three-section format (QR, VR, DI), 45 minutes per section, and the 205–805 scoring range. Many older study materials still reference the discontinued AWA / Sentence Correction sections — ignore those.

How to Prepare for the GMAT for MBA Admission in 2026?
