The year 2005 saw the establishment of D. Y. Patil University. The University is sponsored by the D.Y. Patil Education Society and is situated in Kolhapur, Maharashtra. Originally connected to Shivaji University in Kolhapur, this college was eventually linked to the Maharashtra University of Health Sciences in Nashik. On the advice of the University Grants Commission, the Department of Secondary and Higher Education, Ministry of Human Resources Development, has granted D.Y. Patil Education Society (DYPES), which includes D.Y. Patil Medical College, Kolhapur, the Deemed to be University status.
The five and a half-year MBBS degree is available at the undergraduate level through DY Patil Education Society. The college also provides a four-year Bachelor of Science in Nursing program at the undergraduate level. An additional two-year Post Basic B.Sc. program is offered by the college.
Additionally, the college offers postgraduate medical courses with a variety of specializations, including MD and MS degrees. Programs for both MDs and MSs are available for three years.A applicant must have finished the MBBS degree that the Medical Council of India has acknowledged in order to be considered for these courses.
To get admitted into the MD/MS programs, qualified applicants must take the National Board of Education (NBE) NEET PG exam.
Apart from the MD and MS programs, D.Y. Patil College also provides two-year Master's degrees in Medical Science and Nursing subjects. It also provides two-year PG Diploma programs with a limited number of specialized subjects.
A candidate must have passed the M.B.B.S. Examination from an accredited medical college and obtained final registration from the Medical Council of India, New Delhi, the Maharashtra Medical Council, or the relevant State Medical Council following a year of rotating internship training in order to be considered for admission to any of the postgraduate programs.
