The national level exam results are used to determine admission to IIIT Bangalore. Written exams are also administered by the institute for MSc and MS programmes. JEE Main scores are used to determine admission to IIIT Bangalore iMTech (BTech + MTech). GATE results are part of the IIIT Bangalore MTech admissions process. A written exam is required for admission to the MSc in Digital Society programme, and there is a subsequent PI round. The institute has ended this year's PG admissions.
Rather than a 4-year BTech programme, IIIT Bangalore provides a 5-year Integrated M.Tech programme. The CSE and ECE specialties of IIIT Bangalore iMTech (BTech + MTech) are extensive. JEE Main rank is the basis for programme admission. The institute establishes the cutoff ranks for admission. The CSE and ECE programmes are given preference to candidates who meet the cutoff ranks. A candidate will be allowed under preference-1 if they are only interested in one of the available specialisations. Candidates who are interested in both branches will be admitted based on choice number two. The number of available seats is then used to determine admission to the programme.
GATE results are accepted by IIIT Bangalore for MTech programme entrance. The GATE results for the CS/IT or EC paper are taken into account for the MTech in CSE or ECE final admissions. The institute alone releases the GATE cutoff rank needed for admission. Students up to 650 in the GATE were admitted to the CSE programme at IIIT Bangalore in 2021. The final rank accepted for the ECE course was 620.
The institute administers a written exam for admission to the MSc programme in Digital Society, which is followed by a round of in-person interviews. Candidates are excused from the written exam administered by IIIT Bangalore if they have valid results in the CAT, CEED, CUCET, or TISS NET. Those who pass the written exam or the national exam are invited to the interview phase for final admissions. The institute shortlists candidates on the basis of performance in the PI.
Admission to IIIT Bangalore MS/PhD program is done via written test followed by a personal interview round. Applicants are shortlisted based on their chosen field of research and valid GATE/GRE/CSIR-UGC NET/ UGC-NET/ JEST/ NHBM exam scores. Candidates with a valid score in any of the national-level exams are exempted from written test round. The final selection to the programs is made based on candidate's performance in the interview round. The table below represents eligibility criteria and selection process for MS/PhD admissions:
