The University of North Bengal (UNB)—commonly referred to as North Bengal University (NBU)—was established by an act of the Legislature of West Bengal in 1962. It comprises two campuses: one located in Raja Rammohunpur, near Siliguri and the other in Danguajhar, Jalpaiguri. Currently, NBU provides postgraduate (PG) and doctoral programs across six districts in North Bengal, as well as in the neighboring state of Sikkim. NBU offers its courses through 64 affiliated colleges (which include two constituent colleges) spread throughout numerous districts within its jurisdiction. Although NBU itself conducts entrance exams for various disciplines, it accepts the Common Management Admission Test (CMAT) for MBA admissions.

Candidates must, however, fulfill the eligibility requirements for these courses to gain admission into North Bengal University, because the selection process is quite competitive.
