Burdwan University, also known as the University of Burdwan, is a UGC-recognized state university founded in 1960. It is the second-largest university in West Bengal, featuring four academic campuses and 166 affiliated colleges. The university’s campuses include Rajbari, Technology, Golapbag, and Tarabag, which is dedicated to Medical Education.
Burdwan University is ranked 125th in the QS Rankings 2024 under the Asian University Rankings for Southern Asia, 451-500 in the overall Asian University Rankings, and 36th in the NIRF 2024 rankings for State Public Universities. The university offers a variety of undergraduate, postgraduate, PhD, and other programs through its constituent colleges and departments. Burdwan University also includes the University Institute of Technology (UIT Burdwan) and the Burdwan Distance Education Institute.

The Central Library, located in a two-story building, houses a vast collection of 1,58,962 books, 8,170 research/project books, 24,812 journals, 918 reprints, 2,365 theses, and 1,983 reports, along with 19 departmental libraries. It also provides consultation services to external scholars, teachers from affiliated colleges, students from other universities, and alumni. Additionally, the library features an E-Resource Centre. The campus provides ample accommodation with a Boys' Hostel offering 951 beds and a Girls' Hostel with 797 beds. For sports enthusiasts, the Sports Complex includes a basketball court, football ground, and volleyball court. The university is equipped with various labs, including computer, electrical, language, power systems, and control system labs, among others. The Moot Court for law students, cafeteria, gym, hospital/medical facilities, Wi-Fi campus, shuttle service, and auditorium further enhance the student experience.
