The Central Seat Allocation Board conducts CSAB counselling registration 2025 for students who weren't allotted a seat through JoSAA counselling, or who are eligible under specific quotas. Based on JEE Main 2025 ranks, CSAB conducts three separate rounds—NEUT, Special, and Supernumerary. The CSAB NEUT counselling is already in progress, and the Round 1 seat allotment result has been released. Up next is the special round registration, starting on July 30, followed by the supernumerary round from August 24.

By the end of this blog, you will know

  • The complete CSAB counselling registration process with login, form fill-up, document upload, and fee payment steps.
  • Who is eligible for NEUT, Special, and Supernumerary rounds, and how each round is different.
  • Key dates and round-wise schedule to ensure you don't miss any deadlines for CSAB 2025.

What is CSAB?

The Central Seat Allocation Board (CSAB) oversees counselling for admission to undergraduate engineering and technical programs, based on JEE Main scores. It primarily steps in after JoSAA counselling concludes, managing vacant seats through additional rounds. CSAB conducts three different types of counselling rounds, each with a specific purpose and target group of students.

Let's look at the different categories under CSAB 2025 counselling:

CSAB Special Round:

This round fills the vacant seats left unoccupied in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs after JoSAA counselling ends. All interested candidates must register again, even if they participated in JoSAA. The special round is open to students who appeared for JEE Main 2025 and meet the eligibility requirements.

CSAB NEUT Round:

The NEUT (North Eastern and Union Territories) round is exclusively for students from northeastern states and union territories that lack sufficient technical education facilities. Seats are allotted under the Government of India's reservation scheme in AICTE-approved institutions for engineering, architecture, technology, and pharmacy courses.

CSAB Supernumerary Round:

This round is only for candidates from Andaman & Nicobar Islands, Lakshadweep, Daman & Diu, and Dadra & Nagar Haveli. It allocates supernumerary seats available at NIT Calicut, NIT Durgapur, and SVNIT Surat.

Stage

Step 1: Online Registration

All eligible candidates must register separately for CSAB Special Rounds at csab.nic.in. JoSAA registrations will not be carried forward.

After registration, candidates are required to pay the Special Round Enrolment Fee (includes IAF-I and SRPF) via Net Banking, Debit/Credit card, or SBI e-challan.

Step 3: Choice Filling & Locking

  • Candidates must enter fresh choices (JoSAA choices are not valid here).
  • The choice list will display all eligible NIT+ programs, regardless of seat vacancy.
  • Choices must be locked before the deadline; otherwise, the system will auto-lock the last saved version.

Step 4: Special Round 1 Activities

Step-by-Step Process of CSAB 2025 Supernumerary Counselling

This special round of counselling is specifically held for Union Territory (UT) candidates and is conducted independently of JoSAA or CSAB Special rounds.

Here's how the process unfolds:

Step 1: Online Registration on CSAB Supernumerary Portal

All eligible candidates must register afresh at csab.nic.in as per the official schedule. Please note that prior participation in JoSAA or any CSAB round will not carry over to this process.

Here are the important instructions for registration:

  • Login must be done using your JEE Main 2025 Application Number and the latest password (from JEE Advanced, JoSAA, or CSAB Special, if applicable).
  • Only Indian Nationals are eligible for this round.
  • Candidates can only register once.
  • Those who didn't verify documents earlier (in JoSAA or CSAB Special) can update:
    1. Gender
    2. State of Eligibility (based on where Class 12 was first attempted)

Step 2: Filling and Locking Choices for Seat Allotment

Once registration is complete, candidates must fill in fresh program and institute choices.

  • Previous preferences from JoSAA or CSAB Special Rounds are not valid here.
  • It's advised to save choices frequently while filling out.
  • Final locking is mandatory — either done manually or automatically by the system once the deadline ends.
  • A printout can be downloaded only after locking is complete.

Step 3: Supernumerary Seat Allocation Based on JEE Main Rank

The CSAB system will allocate seats using the Common Rank List (CRL) of JEE Main 2025.

Here's how it works:

  • Allocation is based purely on merit and preference.
  • Candidates can be considered for all branches listed in the seat matrix.
  • Seats will be assigned only from the remaining supernumerary seats, after subtracting the ones filled under the standard Home State quota for each UT.

Step 4: Uploading Documents and Paying SSAF

Candidates allotted a seat must upload the necessary documents and pay the Seat Securing and Acceptance Fee (SSAF) via the CSAB portal.

Required documents include:

Document Type

Details

Proof of Date of Birth

Class X Certificate or Birth Certificate

Academic Proof

Class XII Mark Sheet

Category Certificate (if applicable)

SC/ST/OBC-NCL/GEN-EWS

PwD Proof (if applicable)

UDID card and/or PwD certificate

State of Eligibility Certificate

Based on the qualifying exam location

Medical Fitness Certificate

Issued by a registered medical officer

Step 5: Online Document Verification

Post-upload, the CSAB team will verify your documents online.

  • Verification officers may raise queries if needed.
  • You must respond to these queries within the given timeframe through your login.
  • Verification is mandatory to confirm your seat.

Step 6: Final Physical Reporting to the Allotted Institute

Candidates whose seats are confirmed after successful verification must report to their allotted institute in person as per the announced schedule.

  • Final admission formalities, including fee payment, will be completed there.
  • Any remaining amount (beyond the SSAF paid earlier) must be cleared at the institute.
  • The SSAF paid will be transferred to the institute after deducting processing charges (if applicable).

Step-by-Step Process of CSAB 2025 NEUT Counselling

The CSAB NEUT counselling is conducted to allocate engineering, architecture, and pharmacy seats for candidates from the North Eastern States and Union Territories. This process is distinct from other CSAB rounds and involves document verification, preference filling, and centralised allotment. Here's a clear roadmap of each stage:

Step

Details

1. Registration & Document Upload

  • Eligible candidates must register on csab.nic.in within the scheduled timeline.
  • Engineering/Architecture applicants log in using JEE Main 2025 credentials.
  • Pharmacy applicants must generate login credentials via a separate link.
  • Required documents (e.g., ID proof, PRC, certificates, etc.) must be uploaded during registration.

2. Document Verification by State Authorities

  • State DTEs/NERIST review uploaded documents.
  • Candidates are informed via SMS/Email if their status is confirmed or ineligible.
  • If discrepancies arise, queries will be raised and must be resolved within the deadline to retain eligibility.

3. Choice Filling & Locking

  • Verified candidates can fill in institute and course preferences in the desired order.
  • Choices can be saved and edited before the deadline. Locked choices cannot be altered.
  • If not locked manually, the system auto-locks the last saved list.

4. First Round of Seat Allotment & Reporting

Seats are allotted based on JEE Main 2025 rank (Engineering/Architecture) or Class XII marks (Pharmacy). Allotments are notified on the CSAB portal. Candidates must pay INR 5,000 to accept the seat and choose from three options:

  • Freeze – Retain current seat
  • Slide – Seek upgrade within the same institute
  • Float – Consider higher choices in other institutes

5. Second Round of Allotment

  • Vacant seats from Round 1 are reprocessed.
  • Candidates who chose Slide/Float or were unallotted in Round 1 are considered.
  • Approved candidates can download their Provisional Admission Letter (PAL) and must report to the allotted institute with originals.

6. Withdrawal Option

  • Candidates can withdraw after either round via the portal. A refund of INR 3,000 (from the INR 5,000 paid) will be issued post-counselling.
  • Withdrawn candidates can still participate in spot rounds, if held.

7. Final Reporting at Allotted Institute

  • Candidates must appear at the institute with original documents and their PAL as per the schedule.
  • Failure to report will lead to admission cancellation.

8. Spot Round (if held)

  • Conducted offline by individual institutes. No fresh online registration is required.
  • Candidates must report physically to the designated DTE/Reporting Centre with original and self-attested photocopies of all documents.

It's a region-specific counselling round, meant for focused admissions. Completing all steps properly increases your admission chances.

The CSAB 2025 counselling process offers an additional opportunity for students who may have missed or not secured a seat during the JoSAA rounds. With three distinct rounds—Special, NEUT, and Supernumerary—it caters to different candidate categories, including North Eastern, UT, and PwD candidates. Understanding the complete process, from registration to physical reporting, is key to ensuring you don't miss out on important steps or deadlines.

FAQs About CSAB Counselling 2025

Is it mandatory to participate in CSAB if I have already taken part in JoSAA counselling?

No, CSAB counselling is optional and only meant for candidates who either didn't get a seat through JoSAA or want to upgrade/change their allotment. You can skip it if you're satisfied with your JoSAA seat.

Can I participate in both CSAB Special and NEUT rounds?

No, you can only participate in the round applicable to your category. CSAB NEUT is for students from North Eastern and UT states, while the Special Round is for vacant seats after JoSAA.

Do I need to re-upload documents for CSAB if I already uploaded them during JoSAA?

Yes, all candidates must upload the required documents again during CSAB reporting, regardless of whether they participated in JoSAA or not.

What happens if I forget to lock my choices in CSAB counselling?

If you don't manually lock your choices, the system will auto-lock your last saved preferences once the deadline passes.

Is the CSAB counselling fee refundable if I don't get a seat?

Yes, the enrolment fee is refundable after deducting a processing charge if you don't get any seat in both Special Rounds or choose to surrender/withdraw within the allowed window.

Can I modify my choices after submitting them in CSAB?

You can modify your choices anytime before locking them or before the choice-filling deadline. Once locked, they cannot be changed.

How is seat allotment done in CSAB rounds?

Seat allotment is based on your JEE Main rank, category, preferences filled, and availability of seats at the time of allocation.

What are the options after CSAB seat allotment?

You'll be required to select one among Freeze, Slide, Float, Surrender, or Withdraw, depending on whether you want to keep the seat or explore other options.

Are there any spot rounds after CSAB Special Round 2?

No, CSAB does not conduct any spot rounds. Any vacant seats post Special Round 2 are handled directly by the institutes through their admission process.

Will I lose my JoSAA seat if I participate in CSAB and get a new allotment?

Yes, if you are allotted a seat in CSAB and accept it, your earlier seat from JoSAA will be forfeited automatically.

Can I use the same login credentials for CSAB that I used for JoSAA?

Yes, candidates must use their JEE Main 2025 application number and password to log in for CSAB registration.

Is there any separate merit list released for CSAB counselling?

No separate merit list is prepared. Allotments are strictly based on JEE Main ranks and category as per existing reservation rules.

What happens if I don't report online after seat allotment in CSAB?

Failure to report within the stipulated time will result in cancellation of the allotted seat, and no further claim will be entertained.

Can I apply for fee waiver schemes during CSAB counselling?

Fee waivers are applicable as per government norms, but you must upload the necessary documents at the time of reporting to claim such benefits.

Are there any medical requirements for CSAB admission?

Yes, candidates must meet the medical fitness criteria prescribed by the respective institutes. A medical certificate is usually required during reporting.

Can OCI/PIO candidates apply through CSAB counselling?

Only Indian nationals and candidates belonging to eligible NEUT states can apply. OCI/PIO candidates are not eligible under CSAB.

Do PwD candidates have a separate counselling round?

Yes, supernumerary seats for PwD candidates are filled through a dedicated CSAB round conducted separately. The eligibility and schedule differ from general rounds.

Is there any benefit to participating in CSAB if I already have a low rank?

Yes, participating in CSAB can still give you a chance at seats that were left vacant after JoSAA, often at lesser preferred institutes, but still within the NIT+ system.
