TNEA 2025 Random Numbers
Each applicant will receive a random number for tie-breaking purposes. If all other tie-breaking methods fail to determine the rank on the TNEA merit list, a 10-digit random number will be assigned to every candidate. The candidate with the higher random number will be given priority in the merit list.
Rank List for TNEA 2025
A rank list will be prepared based on the performance of the candidate in the specified subjects, with a total score of 200 marks (Mathematics: 100, Physics: 50, Chemistry: 50) in the qualifying examination. The marks provided by candidates in the TNEA 2025 application form will be normalised. The final merit list will be created based on the normalised scores.
Normalisation of Marks for Ranking
The marks obtained by students in qualifying exams from various Boards or authorities will be adjusted to match those obtained by students from the Tamil Nadu State Board using a normalisation method.
For example, if the highest score in Physics for a Tamil Nadu State Board student is 100, and the highest score from another Board in the same subject is 90, both will be considered as 100. If a student from another Board scores 60 marks in Physics (with 90 being the highest mark on their board), the score will be normalised as follows:
(60/90)∗100=66.66(60/90) * 100 = 66.66%(60/90)∗100=66.66.
Once the marks are normalised across different boards, the qualified students will be merged into a single common merit list.
The TNEA 2025 merit list will be based on a total of 200 marks. If multiple candidates achieve the same total marks, their ranking will be determined using the following criteria in order of priority:
- Percentage of marks in Mathematics
- Percentage of marks in Physics
- Percentage of marks in the optional subject
- Total marks in the 12th Standard Examination
- Date of birth (preference for older candidates)
- Random number (higher values are prioritised)
The overall rank and community-wise rank lists will be published on the official TNEA website. College and branch allotment will be provisional and done only through online counselling based on the candidates' rank and preferences. No separate announcements will be made in newspapers.
Candidates will have one week to address grievances related to the rank list. This grievance redressal process will be conducted in person, and applicants can contact the Office of Secretary, TNEA, Directorate of Technical Education or visit nearby TFCs for assistance.

We have already seen the initial steps. Let’s explore the steps involved after the counselling.
1. TNEA 2025 Choice Filling
The TNEA choice-filling process allows candidates to select their preferred college and course based on their TNEA rank and category. To participate in the choice filling, candidates need to visit the official TNEA website and log in using their registered email ID and password.
Once logged in, candidates must enter their preferred colleges and courses in order of preference. The preferences must be listed with the most preferred choice at the top. It is essential to fill and submit the choices before the TNEA choice-filling deadline. The seat allotment will be based on the candidate’s preference order, rank, and the availability of seats.

The Directorate of Technical Education (DoTE) will publish the TNEA seat allotment result on the official TNEA website under the respective candidate logins. To check the allotment result, candidates must log in to the official TNEA 2025 website with their registered email ID and password.
Candidates who are allotted a seat must confirm the allotment or consider other available options before the deadline.
3. Download the TNEA 2025 Provisional Allotment Order
Candidates who accept their allocated seat and choose the "Accept and Join" option will need to download the TNEA allotment order and report to the designated college to complete the admission process, including fee submission.
If the admission process is not completed, the candidate’s seat will be cancelled, and they will no longer be eligible for future rounds. The TNEA allotment order can be downloaded from the official website after logging in.
If a seat is allocated during TNEA 2025 counselling, candidates have the following options to confirm or reject their seat:
4. TNEA Counselling Confirmation of Allotted Seats
After allotment of seats, candidates have the following options:
- Accept and Join: The candidate is satisfied with the allocated seat and must download the provisional allotment order. They should report to the college by the specified date for admission. If they fail to report, the seat will be cancelled, and they cannot participate in further TNEA 2025 rounds.
- Accept and Upward: The candidate is satisfied with the allotted seat but prefers to wait for a higher-ranked choice in the upcoming upward movement. If no better option is available, the previously allotted seat will be confirmed.
- Decline and Upward: The candidate is not happy with the allotted seat and declines the seat but wishes to wait for a better option in the upward movement. If no better seat becomes available, the candidate will move to the next round.
- Decline and Move to Next Round: The candidate is not satisfied with the allotted TNEA 2025 seat and does not wish to wait for upward movement but is willing to participate in the next round.
- Decline and Quit: The candidate is not satisfied with the allotted TNEA 2025 seat and does not wish to participate in any subsequent rounds.
- Upward or Move to Next Round: If no seat is allotted based on the candidate’s choices, they will have the option for upward movement. If a seat becomes vacant during upward movement, it will be allotted to the candidate. The candidate will be moved to the next round if no seats are available.
