About Swami Vivekananda (SVMCM) Scholarship:
Also referred to as the swami vivekananda scholarship and Bikash Bhavan scholarship, the SVMCM scheme is a remarkable effort by the Government of West Bengal to support the educational pursuits of dedicated students within the state. Named after the revered Swami Vivekananda, this scholarship is a testament to practising his noble principles of providing educational opportunities to economically disadvantaged students.
The primary objective of the svmcm scholarship is to enable meritorious students to excel in all fields, including arts, commerce, science, medical, technical, and professional, with monthly financial assistance. By implementing this post-matric scholarship, the government aspires to ensure deserving students can access quality education and contribute to developing their communities and the nation.
Eligibility Criteria for SVMCM Scholarship:
The eligibility criterion for obtaining the svmcm scholarship is quite detailed. Thus, students must thoroughly review the guidelines to avoid erring at any stage. Both general and specific (academic) parameters apply to all candidates.
The general criteria are as follows:
- Domiciled in the State of West Bengal.
- Studying at an educational institution based in the State of West Bengal.
- Students must be pursuing post-matric courses in regular mode only.
- Annual family income must be under Rs. 2,50,000/-.

Selection Criteria for SVMCM Scholarship:
The candidates for the svmcm merit cum means scholarship are chosen as per the following criteria.
- Submission of application through the online portal with compliance with the eligibility and documentation requirements.
- The applications are then arranged in descending order to prepare the merit list based on marks obtained in the qualifying examination apart from income/means criteria.
- Priority is given to students ranking higher in the merit list, and scholarship is sanctioned as per the availability of funds.
Application Process of SVMCM Scholarship:
Having checked the eligibility criteria, students can apply for the applicable grant by following the below steps.
- Open the svmcm scholarship official website on https://svmcm.wbhed.gov.in/
- If you are a previously registered user, click on the Applicant Login option at the top right side of the homepage. New applicants will have to register themselves before proceeding by clicking on Registration.
- after clicking on Registration, new users must Select Category from Topper or Non-Topper. Then, click on Please Select Application Type and choose from Fresh or Renewal. Then, click on Please Select Action and choose from Application Status or Apply for Fresh.
- Fill out details like the Directorate You Are Applying Under, Last Qualified Exam, Name of The Board/Council/College/University, Year, Mobile No., Present Course Details, State, Applicant Name, Email ID, Aadhar Card No., Ration Card Number/Khadyasathi ID (If Any), Religion. Bank Details like IFS Code, Bank Name, Branch Name, MICR Code, and Account Number are also needed.
- Upload the listed documents and click on Register.
- You will receive the Applicant ID and Password on your registered email ID and phone number. Use the same to log into the portal by also submitting the Security Code. Click on Login and fill out the necessary details, if any.
- Check the box under ‘This is to declare that I have read the instructions properly and agree to abide by them.’ Click on Proceed, and your application will be submitted.

Renewal of The SVMCM Scholarship:
Keeping in mind the goals of this scheme, the government has laid down specific svmcm scholarship renewal provisions as below.
- The renewal application must be submitted online to the concerned scholarship sanctioning authority within one month from the date of his/her admission to the next higher class.
- Students must have cleared the last examination (In Semester mode case- all semesters need to be cleared) on the first attempt.
- Renewal will be sanctioned subject to the academic performance requiring at least 60% marks from Higher Secondary to Undergraduate Level at the promotional examination and 50% marks at Postgraduate Level.
- The first renewal for students pursuing a general degree/postgraduate degree (including doctoral) will be done upon the submission of SEM 1 and SEM 2 Marksheet and the second renewal with SEM 3 and SEM 4 Marksheet.
- The first renewal for students pursuing an MBBS degree will be done upon submitting the 1st year Marksheet, and the second renewal with the 2nd year Marksheet.
