Admission to the undergraduate and postgraduate courses is based on NEET UG and NEET PG scores. Prospective students can obtain application forms for admission from the official website of DTE Goa or through channels. To be eligible for the MBBS program candidates must have completed their 10 + 2 education with at least 50% marks in PCB or Biotech combined.

In 1963 the college was renamed Goa Medical College. GMC Panaji offers programs at undergraduate, postgraduate and doctoral levels. The undergraduate courses include MBBS B.Sc BPT BOT and B.Optom while postgraduate offerings consist of MD MS and PGD programs in various specialties. At the doctoral level there is an M.Ch program in Neurosurgery.
