Initially founded as the Institute of Petroleum Management, Gandhinagar (IPMG) in 2006 under the Gujarat Energy Research and Management Institute (GERMI), it was created as a trust and society by the Gujarat State Petroleum Corporation (GSPC), a Government of Gujarat Undertaking. In 2007, GERMI established Pandit Deendayal Petroleum University (PDPU), and IPMG became a constituent of PDPU, subsequently changing its name to the School of Management (SPM). The school aims to be internationally recognized and serve as a leader in quality management education. SPM is committed to offering a diverse range of Energy Engineering programs and nurturing intellectuals who can contribute to creating energy-efficient and environmentally sustainable solutions. The institute's primary goal is to be a hub for research in energy efficiency, benefiting both national and international professionals. As part of this vision, SPM has established partnerships with several globally renowned universities, contributing to its rise as a leader in energy management.

Additional amenities include a shuttle service, auditorium, music room, dance room, air-conditioned classrooms, and a conference room.
