Normalisation Process

The normalisation process ensures a fair comparison of scores across different exam sessions, as the exam's difficulty level may vary between shifts. This process standardises raw scores and calculates percentiles that reflect each student's performance about others within the same session.

  • The highest score in each session is assigned a percentile of 100.
  • Other scores are adjusted relative to this highest score.
  • The final rank is based on the normalised scores, ensuring fairness despite variations in exam difficulty.

To calculate the percentile:

  • The numerator represents the total number of students who scored the same or less than a student's raw score.
  • The denominator is the total number of students who appeared for that session.
  • Multiply the result by 200 to get the percentile.

Tie-Breaking Rule

If two or more students have the same percentile score, the following tie-breaking rules are applied:

  1. The student with a higher score in mathematics will be ranked higher.
  2. If the tie still exists, the student with the better score in physics will be preferred.
  3. If there is still a tie, the student with the higher score in chemistry will be given a higher rank.
  4. If the tie persists, the older student will be given preference.

FAQs for MET Exam Pattern

What is the total score of the MET exam?

The MET exam is a 240-mark test consisting of 60 questions. These include multiple-choice questions (MCQs) and Numerical Answer Type (NAT) questions. Each correct answer earns four marks, while incorrect MCQs result in a 1-mark deduction. There is no penalty for incorrect NAT answers.

How is the MET exam structured?

The MET exam is divided into four sections: Physics, Chemistry, Mathematics, and English. To maximise your chances of getting a good score, attempting all the exam sections is essential.

Can I get into Manipal with a low MET score, say 50 marks?

Admission to Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) typically requires meeting the eligibility criteria, including completing Class 12 with a minimum of 50% aggregate marks in the Science stream. A score of 50 in MET may not be sufficient for admission, as higher scores are generally expected.

How does the MET exam compare in difficulty to JEE?

The MET is considered to be less complex than JEE Main. While JEE Main is known for its high difficulty level, MET is seen as moderate compared to other engineering entrance exams.

How many attempts can I give for the MET?

The MET is conducted twice a year. Candidates can appear for both phases, and the higher scores will be considered for admission. So, you have two attempts available to improve your score.

How much must I score in MET to get into Computer Science Engineering?

For admission to the Computer Science Engineering (CSE) program at Manipal, a score between 140 and 150 out of 240 is generally considered competitive. A score above 150 is often safer for securing a seat in CSE.

What is the difficulty level of the MET exam?

The MET exam is of moderate difficulty. While it may not be as tough as JEE, it requires solid preparation. Last year's cutoff for CSE at the Manipal campus was around 180+ marks, indicating the score range needed for admission.

Can I take the MET exam from home?

No, the MET exam is not available for home-based online testing. It is a computer-based exam that is conducted at designated test centers. During the pandemic, there were some remote proctored exams, but the current format is in-person.

What is the highest salary offered to graduates from Manipal?

The highest placement package offered at Manipal Institute of Technology (MIT) for the 2024 batch was INR 51.03 LPA, providing a glimpse into the strong opportunities available.

Can I get into KMC Manipal with 550 marks?
