The JEE Mains cut off 2026 will be announced by the NTA after both sessions of the exam are completed. The first session of JEE Main 2026 is expected to begin on January 21, with exams scheduled to continue on January 22, 23, 27, 28, and 29. The second session will be held from April 3 to April 9, with registrations for Session 2 starting on January 30, 2026. The cut-off for JEE Advanced and the Session 2 results will be released in April/May 2026.
The JEE Main cut off is the minimum score or percentile a candidate must achieve to qualify for JEE Advanced or for admission to NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs through JoSAA counselling. JEE Main has two types of cut-offs: Qualifying Cut Off and Admission Cut Off. The qualifying cut-off, released by NTA, determines eligibility for JEE Advanced. The admission cut-off, released by JoSAA, specifies the minimum rank required for admission to specific colleges and branches.
In 2024, the NTA announced two cut-offs for JEE Main: one after Session 1 and one after Session 2, along with the final results. For JEE Advanced 2024, the qualifying cut-off for the General category was 93.2, while for OBC-NCL it was 79.67, for SC it was 60.09, for ST it was 44.30, and for PwD it was 0.0013.
The JEE Main 2026 Qualifying Cut Off (expected) for the General category is expected to be around 90–95 percentile. This article provides in-depth information about JEE Mains Cut Off 2026, including category-wise cut-offs, previous year trends, and the factors that determine the cut-off.

JEE Main Cut Off for IITs 2024
JEE Main serves as the qualifying exam for JEE Advanced, which is the gateway for admission to IITs. Unlike NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs, IITs do not use JEE Main scores directly for admissions. Instead, they use JEE Advanced scores. The table below shows the JEE Advanced 2024 closing rank for select programs at top IITs:

Factors Affecting JEE Main Cut Off 2026
The following factors play a key role in determining the JEE Main 2026 cut-off:
Number of Candidates: A higher number of test-takers increases competition and may raise the cut-off.
Difficulty Level of the Exam: A tougher exam leads to lower scores, potentially lowering the cut-off.
Seat Availability: More seats available can lower the cut-off, while fewer seats increase competition.
Previous Year Trends: Cut-offs are influenced by historical data, giving insights into future cut-offs.
Normalisation Process: NTA applies normalisation across sessions to ensure fairness, which can slightly adjust the cut-off.
How to Prepare for JEE Main 2026
Here are some tips to help you prepare for JEE Main 2026:
Understand the Syllabus: Know the complete JEE Main syllabus and focus on high-weightage topics like Mechanics, Thermodynamics, Organic Chemistry, and Algebra.
Practice Mock Tests: Regularly attempt JEE Main question papers and sample papers to improve speed and accuracy.
Revise Formulas and Concepts: Create a formula sheet and revise it regularly, especially a week before the exam.
Focus on NCERT: NCERT books are the foundation for JEE Main, especially for Chemistry.
Time Management: Practice solving papers within the stipulated time to improve time management during the actual exam.

What to Do After JEE Main 2026 Results
After the JEE Main 2026 results are announced:
Check if your percentile meets the qualifying cut-off for JEE Advanced.
The JEE Main 2026 Cut Off is the minimum score or rank required for candidates to qualify for JEE Advanced or to secure admission in NITs, IIITs, and GFTIs.
What is the difference between the JEE Main Qualifying Cut Off and Admission Cut Off?
Qualifying Cut Off: Released by NTA, it determines eligibility for JEE Advanced. Admission Cutoff: JoSAA releases the Cutoff, which determines the minimum score or rank required for admission to specific colleges and branches.
What is a good score for JEE Main 2026?
A score of 250 or higher is considered excellent and can secure admission to top NITs, while 180–249 is good for admission into reputable engineering colleges.
How is the JEE Main 2026 Cut Off calculated?
The cut-off is calculated based on factors such as the number of candidates appearing for the exam, the difficulty level of the paper, and seat availability across institutes.
What is the expected JEE Main 2026 Qualifying Cut Off?
The expected cut-off for the General category is likely to be in the 90th–95th percentile, while for OBC-NCL, it could range from the 70th to 75th percentile. The NTA will release exact cut-offs after the exams.
Is the JEE Main Cut Off the same for all categories?
No, the cut-off varies across categories like General, EWS, OBC-NCL, SC, and ST, with reserved categories having lower cut-off thresholds.
When will the JEE Main 2026 Cut Off be released?
The qualifying cut-off will be announced after the Session 2 results in April 2026, while the admission cut-off will be announced during JoSAA counselling in June–July 2026.
Can I get admission to NITs with a score below the cut-off?
No, you need to meet the admission cut-off for the specific NIT and branch to secure admission.
Does JEE Main 2026 have separate cut-offs for different programs?
Yes, the admission cut-off varies between programs (e.g., Computer Science and Mechanical Engineering) and institutes.
What happens if I don't meet the JEE Main Qualifying Cut Off?
If you don't meet the qualifying cut-off, you won't be eligible to appear for JEE Advanced, but you may still get admission to state engineering colleges or private institutes.
Are there different JEE Main Cut Offs for male and female candidates?
Some GFTIs and programs may have gender-specific cut-offs, with relatively lower cut-offs for female candidates to promote diversity.
How does the JEE Main Cut Off change every year?
The cut-off changes each year based on factors like the number of test-takers, difficulty level, and seat availability.
What is the minimum percentile to qualify for JEE Advanced in JEE Main 2026?
The minimum percentile is expected to be 90–95 for the General category, with lower thresholds for reserved categories.
How can I check the JEE Main 2026 Cut Off?
The qualifying cut-off will be available on the official NTA website, and the admission cut-off will be available on the JoSAA portal.
